Lori-Ann is the Chief Executive Officer for Breakthrough Miami, an unparalleled award-winning out-of-school academic and social enrichment program serving as a bridge connecting communities across Miami. Named Best Summer Learning Program in the US (2018) by the National Summer Learning Association, Breakthrough’s eight-year tuition-free program uses a students-teaching-students model to close the opportunity gap, increase academic opportunity for over thirteen hundred highly motivated, under-resourced students to have access to excellent middle and high school opportunities, graduate on time and propel them on the trajectory of a successful college path and life. The organization also aims to inspire and develop the next generation of educators and educational advocates. A visionary leader, Lori-Ann brings more than two decades of education management experience. Prior to joining Breakthrough, she served as Chief Advancement Officer and Executive Director of External Affairs at Gulliver Prep in Miami. The foundation of Lori-Ann’s professional career was built as an integral member of Florida International University (FIU). Serving in various positions during her multi-decade tenure, Lori-Ann built a meaningful network both broad and deep, and was a creative and entrepreneurial leader known for cultivating strategic public/private partnerships to advance the community’s educational and economic goals. A native of Jamaica, Lori-Ann holds an MBA from Florida International University, has served on various chambers and was a member of the GMCC Leadership Miami Class of 2000. The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce recognized Lori-Ann as the 2019 Miami Non-Profit Leader for her outstanding leadership in the sector and her vision and dedication to the community and has been named to the 2020 Miami Herald Influencers, a panel of statewide leaders and influential Floridians who explore crucial issues facing the state.
