Mary Catherine Hinds

Speaking in Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

In September of 2003, Mary Catherine came to Church World Service from Summit House, a non-profit, alternative–sentencing program for women and children located in Raleigh, NC where she served as Assistant Director in charge of resource development. Before that she served as the Deputy Director of Boards and Commissions for North Carolina’s former governor, James B. Hunt.

Mary Catherine holds a degree in English and Women’s Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill. After graduating she worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Eritrea (“air–uh–TRAY-uh”), NE Africa until hostilities broke out there in 1998 and she and her colleagues were evacuated. She has traveled to Nicaragua, Central America with her Church’s Sister Cities program and has visited CWS projects in Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Serbia and Moldova. In her current position with CWS, Mary Catherine manages the Community Engagement Specialists in the US who work directly with communities who wish to end hunger and poverty and promote peace and justice through CROP Hunger Walks the Ration Challenge and other peer-to-peer fundraising events. In the past year, Mary Catherine has overseen the complete shift to virtual event fundraising. She provides strategic leadership and direction for all the individual fundraising initiatives that support CWS programs.

Mary Catherine and her husband, John, 15 yr old son, Carter, and 12 yr old daughter, Louisa, live in Raleigh, NC where they attend Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Cathedral
